DOMONSTRATIVE PRONOUN IN ARABIC LANGUAGE (THAT) (تلك)

 

 FEMININE SINGULAR DEMONSTRATIVE PRONOUN "THAT"

In our previous lessons, we talked about different types of demonstrative pronoun in Arabic Language and how to use them in sentences. 

 

In today's lesson, we shall discuss the Feminine Singular Demonstrative Pronoun "That"

We shall talk about its functions and how to use it in a sentence. 

 

Also, we shall give clear similarities and differences between the use of (تلك) and (ذلك) with appropriate examples to illustrate our explanations.

 Discussion 


  (تلك)is an Arabic word, which means (That). It is one of the demonstrative Pronouns used to point to a singular feminine object that is far from us. The object we are pointing to must:

1- Be a singular object

2- Be a fiminine object

3- Be far from us

 

Lets go through the following singular feminine Nouns and use them as examples  together with feminine demonstrative pronoun"That"

 

  مُهَندِسَةٌ        مِكْوَاةٌ         دَرَّاجَةٌ

 

 

مُمَرِّضَةٌ          نَافِذَةٌ           ثَلاَّجَةٌ

   

أُمٌّ                بَطَّةٌ            بَيْضَةٌ

 .............................................

Now, They are used to make sentences as follow: 

تلك

That 

 

دَرَّجَةٌ

a bicycle

 

تلك دَرَّجَةٌ

That is a bicycle

 .............................................

تلك

That

 

مِكْوَاةٌ

an iron

 

تلك مِكْوَاةٌ

That is an iron

تلك

That

 

مُهَنْدِسَةٌ

an engineer

 

تلك مُهَنْدِسَةٌ

ثَلاَّجَةٌ

The difference between the use of (تلك) and (ذلك) is that:

 

(تلك) is used to point to a feminine far object while (ذلك) is used to point to a masculine  far object.

 

While the similarity between the use of the two, (تلك) and (ذلك) is that both are:

- used to point to a singular far object

For instance here we have:

تلك بنت                             ذلك ولدٌ

تلك مُدَرِّسة                       ذلك مُدَرِّسٌ

تلك طَبِيبةٌ                         ذلك طَبِيبٌ

تلك مُسْلِمة                        ذلك مُسْلِمٌ

 

and so on......

 

The demonstrative pronoun (تلك) is used

1- used to point to a singular object

2- used to point to a far objects

3- The object must be feminine

 

It is important to note that those words used as examples above are all:

 

1-  Nouns

2- Singulars

3- feminine

4- Indefinite nouns 

 

Summarily

The demonstrative pronoun (تلك)  is in its singular form used to point to any object which is also in its singular form but  the object must be feminine and

far from us.
