MORAL STORY | HELPING OTHERS AND AVOID ARROGANCE

MORAL STORY | HELPING OTHERS AND AVOID ARROGANCE
BY: Issah Abeebllahi Issah

Once upon a time, there were three friends living in a village nearby the popular town of Mazim; The three friends were The Monkey, The Cat, and The Elephant. They were very good friends living peacefully in the village, working together as a team to achieve a very common goal of building their community to the biggest ever desired.

They had been working for so long as a team but each of them was living in a separate apartment different from others.

The monkey was living in a beautiful house made from palm tree leaves.

And the cat was living in a beautiful house made from old bricks

while the elephant, on the other hand, was living in a modern house built with modern bricks mixed with cement, well painted and decorated.

Looking at their life styles and the mode of their living, one could easily say: each of the friends was living according to their level of provisions and the means of livelihood. It was glaring from the type of houses they were living that the elephant was the richest among the three friends living in the village of Mazim.

One day, the three friends went to work in a nearby village as laborers on a rich man’s farm. The man, who was named Mr. Laj was a rich business man, having a very big farmland and a big plantation farm, where crops like cocoa, cola-nut and palm trees were planted. He used to harvest his farm produce every year with the help of many laborers.

This year harvesting came in, and the three friends, the monkey, the cat and the elephant were among the luckiest people to work with Mr. Laj on his farmland to harvest his crops.
Getting ready for their journey, the three friends, on their way to Mr. Laj’s farmland, were discussing the following:

The Monkey said: oh guys, we are very lucky this year to be chosen among the laborers to work with Mr. Laj, I will be very happy if I can work with him many other years to come

The Cat replied: hummmmmmm, Mr. Laj is one of the many good men we have around this community. He is such a generous man and that is why almost everybody in the community loves him dearly.

And The Elephant said: Hahahaha, Mr. Laj is a very good man. I wish he could give us from his farm produce, when we finished working with him.  hahaha, I will be so happy because I have a big back bone and more power, which will allow me to carry more and more loads

The Cat said; heeeehee, poor me, I have a very small body, I cannot carry a lot of load, I can only carry what my mouth can eat at once, poor me, heeeeeeeehee

But Monkey replied him: don’t worry Mr. Cat, I may have a very small body too, but I promise to help you, if you can’t carry your load, I promise, I promise.

After finishing their jobs on Mr Laj’s farmland. Fortunately for them all, Mr Laj, after paying them off their labour charges, gave them loads of plantain and different types of fruits to take home for their family.

They were so happy and thanked Mr Laj for his kindness and generosity. Each of them was to carry his load of gifts as said earlier.

The Elephant said: Hahaha, I am the happiest person on the earth. I can carry my load and even have more space left on my back. I can walk freely and even run with my load, hahahah. I am so powerful.

And The Cat said: hmmmmmm, hennnnn I can’t carry my load, I don’t have a big backbone and enough power to do so. I need help and I need someone who can really help me to carry a little from my fruits. I need help, please help me friends.

The Elephant replied; who will help you friend! I don’t have time to help people. My body is only to be used only by me. No, no, no I can’t help others. I am really sorry

The Cat, looking at the monkey: hmmmmm, can you please help me to carry a little from my fruits? I have a very small body and can only carry a very small load.

And the Monkey replied him:  Ok my friend, don’t worry, I will help you to carry a little of your load. I have a medium body size. I don’t have a big body and I am not as powerful as the elephant, but I will help you to carry from your load.

As they were returning home, the monkey helped the cat to carry a little from his load while the elephant was walking majestically, proud of his power.

Along the way, as the elephant kept walking proudly and majestically, he fell down into the gutter and one of his legs got broken, he cried loudly and asked for help………

He cried out loudly: help me please, my friends, help me. I cannot stand on my feet again, one of my legs is broken. I also have back ache and all my body is paining me. I am weak, I can neither walk again nor carry my load, please help me out friends, I regret my actions and words.

His friends carried him up but could not walk properly again. He could neither walk nor carry his load of fruits and crops.

His friends were very kind. They carried him up and told him they could not carry his load because there was no space to do so.

The monkey said:

Mr. power, hope you have learnt your lesson now. it is very important to be helping others and to avoid arrogance in whatever we are doing. Look at you and your end, we pray for your quick recovery.

And the cat said; such is life Mr. Power and Big back bone. Now, at least I can carry little of my food stuff, what about you? You ended up carrying nothing.

The elephant ended up carrying nothing from his fruits and crops as he could not walk properly. He was crawling with both his legs and hands back home, and his friends left him on the road. he was  walking slowly with his broken leg and ended up being hospitalized at home.

The moral lesson of the story

Kids! the following are lessons derived from the story:

1.It is very good to be helping others especially the weak ones, and
2. To avoid arrogance in whatever favour we were given or blessed with, as no one is having it all.
