 BROKEN PLURAL IN ARABIC LANGUAGE (جمع التكثير) (2)

In our previous lessons, we  said that the broken plural has two forms, which are: The Plural of Few and The Plural of Many. We further discussed the first type which is The Plural of Few.

Here, we are going to discuss the Second part which is the Plural of Many

2.               Plural of Many (جمع الكثرة)

It is the type of plural that starts with three numbers of item but has no end.

Plural of many (جمع الكثرة), has many patterns.

For the purpose of this lesson, we shall bring some of the patters.

EXAMPLES 

 

(فِعَالٌ)

  جمع                         مفرد

Singular            Plural

رجال                        رجل

صغار                     صغير

كبار                         كبير

 (فُعُولٌ)

  جمع                         مفرد

Singular            Plural

بيوت                        بيت

لحوم                           لحم

قبور                           قبر

 

(فُعُلٌ)

  جمع                         مفرد

Singular            Plural

 كتب                     كتاب

رسل                   رسول

صغر                   صغير

 

(فُعَلاَءُ)

  جمع                         مفرد

Singular            Plural

  فقراء                         فقير

علماء                         عالم

كرماء                        كريم

 

(أَفْعِلاَءُ)

  جمع                         مفرد

Singular            Plural

 أغنياء                           غني

أذكياء                            ذكي

أنبياء                             نبي

 

(مَفَاعِلُ)

  جمع                         مفرد

Singular            Plural

 مساجد                         مسجد

مفاتح                            مفتاح

مكارم                              كرم

(مَفَاعِيْلُ)

  جمع                         مفرد

 صنادق                       صندق

أقاريب                          أقرب

Note:

From all the above examples, it is clearer that the broken plurals have no specific patters or rules, like other plurals ( sound masculine and sound feminine plurals) which follow guided rules.
